Connell Consulting, LLC was formed in 2011 by Dr. Denis E. Connell Sr., the retired Chief of the Clark, New Jersey Police Department.  Throughout his 37 year career in law enforcement, Chief Connell developed a technical expertise in proactive police supervision, which is the science and methodology of making law enforcement smarter through training and mentoring, reducing risk to officers, departments, municipalities, and insurers while empowering the officers on the street to make better decisions and improve overall policing results.

Our Story

Consultants often get a bad rap, regardless of the industry. Often times considered too high level for practical application or too detailed for big-picture results, it's no surprise they are met with skepticism. Connell Consulting brings the real world experience and technical expertise, taught by a true law enforcement practitioner who is a student of the evolving science.  Chief Connell spent years coming up through the ranks of the Clark Police Department, and identified the need at each promotion he earned for training on how to best do his job according to the New Jersey State Attorney General Guidelines.  

Never has it been more important that law enforcement professionals know, understand, and operate under the New Jersey State Attorney General Guidelines.  

While working full time at Clark Police Department, Chief Connell pursued his undergraduate and graduate education at William Paterson University and then Seton Hall University, earning a doctorate in 2000, with his dissertation focused on his career passion: Proactive Police Supervision. 

Chief Connell retired from the Clark Police Department in 2011 after a distinguished 37 year career, and soon found himself as a resource for the vast network of law enforcement contacts he had made over his career.  With his technical knowledge of the New Jersey State Attorney General Guidelines and his respected experience in the field, Chief Connell started Connell Consulting, LLC in 2011 to help officers, departments, municipalities, and insurers reduce risk and drive better community policing results.

Chief Connell lives in Clark, New Jersey with his best friend and wife Maureen.  He is the father of two boys Denis Jr. and Timothy and the grandfather of Moira, Cecilia, and Aida.  While law enforcement has been a professional passion of Chief Connell, in his personal time he enjoys spending time with his family, riding trains, reading, riding bicycles at the Jersey Shore, hockey, and dogs.
